Troubleshooting

Running into an issue? This page covers the most common problems and how to fix them.

I don't see any data after connecting

Data can take a few minutes to appear on your first connection. Calm Analytics pulls data from the GA4 API, which has rate limits that can slow down the initial load.

What to do:

  1. Wait about 5 minutes, then refresh the page.
  2. Check that your GA4 property has actually been collecting data. Open Google Analytics directly and see if there is data in GA4's own reports.
  3. If your GA4 property is brand new and has not received any traffic yet, there will be nothing to display. Visit your own site to generate some test data, then check again in a few hours.

My property doesn't appear in the list

The Google account you signed in with must have at least Viewer access to the GA4 property. If the property belongs to someone else's account, they need to grant you access first.

What to do:

  1. Open Google Analytics and confirm you can see the property there.
  2. If you cannot see it in GA4 either, ask the property owner to add your Google account under GA4 Admin -> Account Access Management with at least Viewer permissions.
  3. Make sure you are signed into Calm Analytics with the correct Google account. If you have multiple accounts, sign out and sign back in with the right one.

Data doesn't match GA4 exactly

Small differences between Calm Analytics and GA4 are normal and expected. Here is why:

  • Caching: Calm Analytics caches your data and refreshes it periodically (roughly every 24 hours). If you are comparing to GA4's live view, the numbers may differ slightly.
  • Time zones: Make sure you are comparing the same date range. GA4 uses the time zone configured in your property settings.
  • Real-time data: GA4's real-time reports process data differently from standard reports. Minor discrepancies of 1-3% are typical even within GA4 itself.

If you see a large discrepancy (more than 5-10%), double-check that you are looking at the same date range and the same metric in both tools.

I'm getting a "quota exceeded" error

The GA4 API has daily and hourly usage limits. If you are making a lot of requests (switching between dashboards quickly, changing date ranges frequently), you may temporarily hit the limit.

What to do:

  1. Wait about an hour. Hourly quotas reset automatically.
  2. Go to Settings -> API Usage to see your current quota consumption. Green means healthy. Amber means you are getting close. Red means you are at or near the limit.
  3. Reduce the frequency of date range or dashboard changes if you are hitting limits regularly.

Quota is per GA4 property

Quota limits are set by Google on your GA4 property, not by Calm Analytics. Any tool accessing the same property (including GA4 itself) shares the same quota pool.

I can't see data older than 30 days

This is a Free plan limitation. The Free plan restricts your date range to the last 30 days of data.

What to do:

Upgrade to the Starter plan to unlock full historical date ranges, including year-over-year comparisons and custom date windows going back as far as your GA4 property has data.

Google login keeps failing

Authentication issues are usually caused by browser state or popup blockers.

What to do:

  1. Clear your browser cookies for calmanalytics.com and accounts.google.com.
  2. Try signing in using an incognito or private browsing window.
  3. Make sure your browser is not blocking popups, since the Google sign-in flow opens a popup or redirect.
  4. Try a different browser to rule out extension conflicts.
  5. If you are on a corporate network, check whether your organization blocks third-party OAuth flows.

Search Console data is missing

Google Search Console (GSC) is connected separately from GA4. Having a GA4 property linked does not automatically bring in Search Console data.

What to do:

  1. Go to Settings and look for the Google Search Console section.
  2. Click Connect and authorize access to your Search Console property.
  3. Keep in mind that GSC data has a 2-3 day delay from Google. You will not see today's or yesterday's search data. This is a Google limitation, not a Calm Analytics one.
  4. Make sure the GSC property matches the same website as your GA4 property.
